Three children have died from cholera epidemic in northwest Syria

The “Idleb Health Directorate” in liberated areas announced on Wednesday the death of three children in Idleb camps, northwest of Syria, as they infected with cholera.

The death toll from cholera has reached six, while the number of infections in northwestern Syria has reached 216, according to the Directorate.

The director of the vaccine program at the Support Coordination Unit in Syria, Dr. Mohammad Salem, warned of increasing the number of cholera cases in Syria, in light of the weak response to warnings regarding the risk of cholera outbreak.

Salem told the Turkish “Anadolu” agency that cholera cases may increase with the coming of winter, due to the effects of flooding on sewage systems that will result from the rain, and there is a possibility of water leaking into drinking water.

The Early Warning Alert and Response Network recorded on the sixth of last October the first death from cholera in northwestern Syria.
