Syrian refugees in Lebanon prefer “death boats” to returning to Assad regime-controlled areas

The “Syrian Association for Citizens’ Dignity” published a report shedding light on the Syrian refugees who return from Lebanon to Assad regime-controlled areas through the so-called “voluntary return”.

The report made it clear that a large number of Syrian refugees do not want to return to their county in light of Assad regime’s exist.

According to a poll conducted by the Association with 438 Syrian refugees in Lebanon, 73% of them answered that they have serious concerns about their lives if they return to Syria.

Some of those polled suggested that forcing people to return will put their lives at risk of torture, detention, and forced recruitment.

The poll demonstrated that dozens of Syrian refugees prefer to immigrate to Europe through “death boats” to returning to Syria in recent times.

The poll also showed that a large percentage of Syrians will try to immigrate to other countries if they are forced to return to Syria.

It is noteworthy that international and human rights organizations, including Human Rights Watch, have warned of the risks of returning to Assad regime-controlled areas, pointing out that the Assad regime is committing grave violations against returnees, such as detention, torture and forced disappearance.
