Washington told Ankara that the military operation in northern Syria threatens the life of U.S. personnel there

U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned against the Turkish military operation in northern Syria and expressed his opposition and concern over deteriorating the humanitarian situation in that region.

U.S. Defense Secretary told his Turkish counterpart, Hulusi Akar, in a phone call, of his opposition and concern over the escalating situation in northern Syria.

Austin stressed that the airstrikes threaten the lives of US personnel who are working with local partners in Syria to defeat the Islamic State.

He called for “de-escalation and expressed his strong opposition to a new Turkish military operation in Syria,” pointing out that the new Turkish operation would cause severe damage to the crumbling infrastructure in northern Syria.

The Turkish army continues sending more military convoys to northern Syria, coinciding with targeting sites and points of the “Syrian Democratic Forces” in the region.
