Guterres: We need more resources to respond to Syria earthquake

U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres confirmed that we need more resources to respond to the earthquake that hit Syria.

Guterres said in a press conference “I will be happy if the United States authorizes to open more border crossings between Syria and Turkey to deliver aid to the affected people.”

Guterres pointed out that the United Nations will issue an urgent call to appeal to donors for supporting the affected by the earthquake in Syria.

Guterres said that trucks loaded with shelter services and aid entered this Friday through the Bab al-Hawa crossing, pointing out that more aid is on its way to Syria.

Guterres added that “we should explore all possible avenues to get aid and rescuers into all affected areas, and they are the two priorities to provide relief.”

Guterres described the earthquake as one of the biggest natural disasters in our times, expressing his sorrow at the large number of victims.

The first UN aid convoy entered today northern Syria through “Bab al-Hawa” border crossing with Turkey since Monday’s earthquake, killing thousands of people and causing massive damage to the infrastructure.
