UN refuses two conditions of the Assad regime to permit aid access through Bab al-Hawa crossing
The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a document sent to the Security Council that “Assad regime proposed two unacceptable conditions to allow humanitarian aid delivery through Bab al-Hawa crossing.”
The first condition of the Assad regime is that “the UN should not communicate with entities classified as terrorists,” according to (OCHA).
The second condition is that “the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) should supervise the distribution of aid.
The UN responded to the first condition saying, that it must continue contacts with the governmental and non-governmental effective parties related to the issue.
The UN added that “contact is an imperative matter in operational terms to conduct safe and unhindered humanitarian operations, pointing out that the second condition is not consistent practically with the independence of the United Nations.
The spokesman for the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Stephane Dujarric, said that “the United Nations is still studying Assad regime’s conditions to allow the use of Bab al-Hawa crossing to let aid continue entering the country.
