Ankara is annoyed by Washington’s support for the Syrian Democratic Forces in Syria

Turkish foreign minister Hakan Fidan and the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Turkish media cited informed sources.

The two sides discussed sticking point in the relations between Ankara and Washington regarding US support for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Syria.

According to “Asharq Al-Awsat” newspaper the Turkish side expressed its annoyance for the continuation of US partnership with the Syrian Democratic Forces, in addition to conducting military maneuvers with them recently, as well as continuing to provide them with weapons and military support.

Ankara called on the United States to end the support and military aids which the US provided to the SDF.

The US forces announced early on July, 2023, the start of military maneuvers with the SDF, including air drills in al-Hasakah and Deir Ezzor governorates with the aim of checking the army systems and preserving the efficiency and readiness of the staff, in addition to guaranteeing the continuation of international coalition’s capacity to support the local partners in fighting the ISIS.
