Guterres urges Israel and Hezbollah to halt the hostilities in the region

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres Today, August 26, called on the Lebanese Hezbollah and Israel to immediately and urgently return to a cessation of hostilities.

Guterres said in a statement: “We are concerned over escalating the tension between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.”

Guterres pointed out that it is necessary to find a solution to a comprehensive ceasefire and de-escalation between Hezbollah and Israel in the region.

Guterres confirmed that these hostilities put the Lebanese and Israeli populations at risk and threaten the regional security and stability.

Earlier on Sunday, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah announced the success of the military response to the Israel’s assassination of the party’s commander, Fouad Shukr, and accused Tel Aviv of “lying and failing.”

Nasrallah made it clear that “340 missiles were launched towards Israeli military sites,” killing an Israeli naval soldier and wounding two, according to an Israeli army statement.

The factions require for ceasing the shelling that Israel ends the war backed by US on the Gaza Strip since last October 7, which killed and injured more than 133,000 Palestinians, most of them children and women, and more than 10,000 are missing.
