Assad regime’s foreign minister meets with his Egyptian counterpart in Cario

Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said in a statement: “The visit of Assad regime’s foreign minister, Faisal al-Mikdad, to Egypt aimed to activate the work of the Arab Liaison Committee, bilateral relations, and the situation in the region.”

Abu Zeid’s statement came after a meeting with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty at the Tahrir Palace in Cairo.

Abu Zeid said: “It is necessary to respect Syria’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity, emphasizing the importance of working to find a political settlement to the Syrian crisis in accordance with international references in this regard.”

Abu Zeid added: “His country is looking forward to restoring coordination and cooperation with Syria within the framework of the Arab League in a way that achieves the common interest of the two countries and enhances joint Arab action.”

Abu Zeid pointed out to the importance of activating the work of the Arab Liaison Committee on Syria within the framework of seeking to help Damascus overcome its challenges and achieve the interests of the Syrian people.”

For his part, Assad regime’s foreign minister, Faisal Al-Miqdad, expressed his gratitude for the great Egyptian role in hosting the Syrians and treating them as honored guests in their second country, Egypt.

It is noteworthy that the Arab Liaison Committee on Syria was formed on May 7, 2023, with the aim of following up on the implementation of the Amman Statement, and to continue direct dialogue with the Assad regime to reach a comprehensive political solution in the country. It includes the foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Lebanon, and the Assad regime.
