A child was killed and her family members were burned as a result of a fire broke out in a camp for displaced people north of Idlib

A child was killed and her family members were severely burned yesterday evening, as a result of a fire broke out in Ard al-Matar camp, east of Sarmada, in the northern countryside of Idlib.

The Fresh Online correspondent said that the fire was caused by the ignition of a heater in one of the tents, and the fire spread to devour 5 tents in the Ard Al-Matar camp near the town of Tal Al-Karamah, north of Idlib, which led to the death of a girl and the injury of her family members from the displaced city of Jarjanaz in the eastern Idlib countryside.

The correspondent added that the firefighting teams in the Syrian Civil Defense cooled the site of the fire completely and stopped its expansion to the rest of the tents.

The Syria Response Coordinators Group appealed to humanitarian organizations to help civilians and to expedite the provision of heating materials in light of the low temperatures in northern Syria.

The team said that since the beginning of this year, there have been five fires inside the camps and four in civilian homes, causing the death of a man and a woman, the injury of 3 children, and significant material damage, as a result of the use of heating devices not suitable for use in camps for the displaced and residential homes in northwestern Syria.

During the winter, fires are frequent in the rapidly flammable fabric and plastic tents in light of the deterioration of the conditions of the displaced and their use of dangerous heating methods in the northern Syrian camps and near the Turkish borders, the tents sticking together, and the absence of safety measures, amid constant appeals to humanitarian organizations and local councils to alleviate suffering and provide protection and means of heating.
