Joe Biden begins his term by lifting the ban on Syrians entering the United States
“US President Joe Biden signed a decree to lift the ban imposed by former President Donald Trump, which prevents the entry of Syrian citizens and citizens of other countries into the United States,” White House spokeswoman Jan Psaki said.
Psaki added that the coming days and weeks will witness more executive decrees and procedures, in order to move forward in the face of challenges and implement all the promises made by the president-elect to the American people.
On his first day inside the White House, Joe Biden signed 15 decrees, the most prominent of which was canceling the ban imposed by Donald Trump on citizens of 7 Muslim-majority countries, including Syria, and preventing them from entering the United States.
The decrees included canceling Trump’s previous orders to build the wall on the border with Mexico, and withdrawing from the Paris climate agreement, the World Health Organization, and others.
On January 27, 2017, Donald Trump signed a decree banning citizens of Syria, Iran, Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Sudan and Iraq from entering the United States.
Trump explained, during the ceremony of signing the decree in the Pentagon: “I impose new measures to prevent the entry of extremist Islamists into the United States, there is no place for them here,” according to his claim.
