A French proposal by the Organization for the Control of Chemical Weapons to impose unprecedented sanctions on the Assad regime

France-Presse reported that the member states of the Chemical Weapons Control Organization will study during its meeting, which started today, Tuesday, a French proposal suspending the rights and privileges of the Assad regime in the organization’s body.

The agency stated that the organization will decide whether to impose unprecedented sanctions on the Assad regime for accusing it of using chemical weapons, and its refusal to disclose its arsenal.

The Chemical Weapons Control Organization meetings began today, Tuesday, and will last for three days, and the vote to impose sanctions on the Assad regime will take place on Wednesday or Thursday, according to diplomatic sources told the agency.

Last week, the identification team of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons issued a report in which it condemned the Assad regime for using chlorine gas in one of its attacks on the city of Saraqib in Idlib countryside, in 2018.

The organization’s report stated, “On February 4, 2018, a helicopter belonging to the Assad regime bombed the eastern city of Saraqib with at least a chemical gas cylinder.”
