Washington: The entry of humanitarian aid into Syria must be secured

The US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said in a statement after his meeting with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, “The entry of humanitarian aid to the Syrian people must be secured,” at a time when Moscow threatens to stop this measure after about two months through its veto power that it has repeatedly used to prevent Humanitarian aid arrives in Syria.

Blinken added in the statement: “It is necessary to ensure that humanitarian aid reaches the Syrians,” without mentioning other information regarding the Syrian file.

In 2014, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution allowing humanitarian aid to cross into Syria from four border points (Bab al-Salama and Bab al-Hawa with Turkey, al-Yarobiya with Iraq, and Ramtha with Jordan).

Russia had used its veto right to extend the decision to deliver aid across the border, and then allowed the passage of a second decision that allows this to pass through one border point, the “Bab al-Hawa crossing” on the border with Turkey.
