Biden intends to personally pressure Putin to expand aid access to Syria

The American “Foreign Policy” magazine revealed that President Joe Biden intends to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin, during their summit next week, to expand and increase the entry of humanitarian aid into Syria.

This followed the statement of the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, before the UN Security Council in March regarding the humanitarian situation in Syria, as well as the recent visit of Linda Thomas Greenfield, the US Ambassador to the United Nations, to Turkey, to discuss the entry of humanitarian aid into Syria.

The new US administration’s plan seeks to expand aid deliveries across the Turkish and Iraqi borders with Syria.

Russia has forced the United Nations to scale back a massive program designed to provide assistance through a small number of border crossing points in Turkey, Jordan and Iraq to rescue millions of Syrian civilians living in rebel-held areas in northwestern and northeastern Syria.
