The Red Cross calls on the international community to not ignore the humanitarian needs of the Syrians

The International Committee of the Red Cross called on the international community to not forget the continuing humanitarian needs in Syria at the present time, as millions of Syrians are at “risk of sliding into poverty and despair. The world’s attention has turned towards other crisis, which has put the public services under great pressure.

The committee said in a statement: “The total destruction and gradual deterioration of vital infrastructure, such as water, electricity and health care, has strained the population’s ability to adapt. The committee also called for finding long-term solutions before it is too late, as 50 percent of the water and sanitation systems are working properly all over Syria.”

In this context, the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross, Peter Maurer, said that “the long-term impact of the crisis has led to the deterioration of vital infrastructure and the unavailability of water, health, electricity and education.”
