The United Nations expresses its concern over the ongoing escalation of violence in northern Syria

The United Nations expressed its concern over the ongoing escalation of violence in northern Syria and called for all parties to take the necessary measures to protect the civilians.

The United Nations’ statement issued by Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Syria, Mr. Imran Riza, the Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for Syria, Mr. Muhannad Hadi and the UNICEF Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Ms. Adele Khodr. The statement stated, “once again these horrible tragedies show that civilians, many of them women and children, are still suffering from the effects of ongoing hostilities in parts of Syria.”

The statement urged all parties to take the possible measures to reduce the harm on civilians and abide by their commitments to protect civilians. The United Nations in Syria pays its respects to the families of the victims and wishes the injuries a speedy recovery.

The statement affirmed the United Nations’ commitment to work with all stakeholders in order to build a peaceful and prosperous Syria, including a call for a sustainable political solution for all Syrians.

The statement pointed out that the attack targeting al-Hasakeh on August 19, killing four women and injuring 11. While the attack on a market in al-Bab city killed 13 civilians and injured 38 others, including children.
