Blinken: Russia must stop the siege of Ukrainian cities

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken compared the Russian’s siege of Ukrainian cities to Nazi Germany’s siege of Russian cities during World War II.

Blinken called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to stop the war now and lift the siege on Ukrainian cities, reminding him of the death of his brother who died of diphtheria during the siege imposed by Nazi Germany forces on Leningrad city. The siege killed hundreds of thousands of people at the time.

Blinken said: Russia is starving out cities like Mariupol. It is shameful. The world is saying to Russia stop these attacks immediately. That siege affected millions of Russian families, including President Putin’s, whose one-year-old brother was one of the many victims.

He pointed out that the countries of the world are calling on Russia to stop its attacks immediately. Let the food and medicine in. Let the people out safely, stressing the need to end this war against Ukraine.

Putin’s older brother Viktor died of diphtheria during the siege of Leningra during World War II by Nazi Germany forces.
