During the past month, the Syrian Network documents the violations of the Assad regime and Russia against civilians south of Idlib

The Syrian Network for Human Rights issued a report today, Thursday, on the Assad regime and Russian forces committing war crimes during illegal attacks on Jabal Al-Zawiya area in the southern countryside of Idlib.
In its report, the network said: “About 61 civilians were killed, 33 of them at the hands of Russian forces, including 20 children, and the same forces targeted 13 vital facilities from June until September 2021.”

He added: “We observed a military escalation by the forces of the Assad regime and Russia, with the beginning of last June 2021, targeting the Jabal Al-Zawiya area and its surroundings, which are outside the control of the Assad regime in northwest Syria, which resulted in civilian martyrs and wounded.”

The report confirmed that 83 civilians were killed, including 44 children and 17 women (adult female), as a result of the military attacks by the forces of the Assad regime and Russia, in and around Jabal Al-Zawiya.

According to the report, heavy bombardment was monitored after the flight of reconnaissance planes, focusing on gatherings of people, and extensive use of special-quality munitions in terms of accuracy of hitting the target and the great destruction of the target place directed through a laser circuit, in addition to the intense missile bombardment.

This campaign also distinguished, according to the report, the use of munitions that had not previously been used in the Syrian conflict with an unprecedented intensity, and finally, great difficulty in determining the responsibility of some attacks between Russia or the Assad regime, due to the presence of launch platforms belonging to the Assad regime, and others belonging to Russia.

The report records that 61 civilians, including 33 children and 12 women, 1 medical personnel, 1 media personnel, and 1 civil defense personnel, were killed in the attacks launched by the forces of the Assad regime and Russia, from June 5, 2021 until September 1, 2021.

Among them are 28, including 13 children, 7 women, and 1 medical staff.
Russian forces killed 33, including 20 children, 5 women, 1 media cadre, and 1 civil defense cadre. The report also documented 5 massacres, 2 of which were at the hands of the Syrian regime forces and 3 at the hands of Russian forces.

He continued, “In the same period, at least 13 incidents of attacks on vital civilian centers were documented by the Assad regime forces and the Russian forces in and around Jabal al-Zawiya, 12 of them at the hands of the former’s forces, and 1 at the hands of the latter.

The report finally called on the UN Security Council to refer the Syrian file to the International Criminal Court, to hold all those involved accountable, and to withhold the right of veto when committing crimes against humanity and war crimes .He also called on him to impose UN military and economic sanctions on the Syrian regime, in particular leaders implicated in crimes against humanity and war crimes.
