Joe Biden intends to increase the number of refugees in the United States
US President Joe Biden proposed, today, Wednesday, to increase the reception of refugees to America, this year, after recording a significant decrease under former President Donald Trump.
Biden said that he had proposed to his administration that the United States receive 62,500 refugees this year, after the previous administration had set a record in reducing the number of refugees to 15,000 only.
According to media agencies, Biden’s plan requires bringing “22 thousand refugees from Africa, 13 thousand from South Asia, 6 thousand from East Asia, 5 thousand from Latin America and the Caribbean, in addition to 12,500 refugees from places not yet identified.”
Joe Biden explained in his proposal that there is a need to receive refugees from more than 12 countries whose humanitarian situation is deteriorating, and this position contradicts Trump’s portrayal of refugees as a security threat and an economic burden.
Biden said on February 4 that he intends to raise the annual refugee admission numbers to 125,000 in the next fiscal year, which begins October 1, 2021.
Former President Donald Trump issued decisions prohibiting the entry of refugees to the United States of America, most of them from Muslim countries.
