Joel Rayburn: We will impose more sanctions on the Assad regime

The UN envoy to Syria, Joel Rayburn, confirmed that the United States of America will impose more sanctions on non-Syrians for helping the Assad regime, within the provisions of the Caesar Act.

Rayborn said: “The Syrian crisis is the most dangerous international crisis at the present time, and the Syrian people highly value the (Caesar) Penal Code, which was approved by Congress to punish the Assad regime for its inhumane actions.”

He added that his country will be committed to providing humanitarian aid and building stability and security to build a better future for the Syrians.

Regarding a question from Committee Chairman Alioune Engel, whether the United States will impose sanctions on those who help the Assad regime such as Russia, Rayburn said: “I think we will expand the powers of the law (Caesar Act) and its targets in the future, because it has great effectiveness even outside Syria and the Assad regime.”

Rayburn stressed continuing pressure on the Assad regime, stressing that there will be no solution to the crisis in Syria except for the political one.

Previously, the American envoy to Syria, Joel Rayburn, stressed the importance of working to achieve a political, peaceful and lasting solution to the conflict in Syria, according to Resolution 2254, where he met during his visit to Syria with a number of military partners in the international coalition to defeat ISIS, and senior officials in the forces of Democratic Syria, and senior members of the Deir Ezzor region council and leaders of its clans.
