Jordan Aviation Authority: There are no plans to operate direct flights between Jordan and Syria

The Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Jordanian Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission, Haitham Mesto, announced that there are currently no plans to operate direct flights between Jordan and Syria.

Mesto said as reported by the official Jordanian news agency Petra “there are no plans to operate direct flights between Jordan and Syria, or vice versa, at the present time.”

The Jordanian Minister of Transport, Wajeeh Azaiza, had previously stated that “Royal Jordanian Company will start its trip to Syria, provided that it adheres to all the conditions that comply with health protocols.”

On September 28, the Jordanian Ministry of Transport confirmed that the “Royal Jordanian Company” will provide land transportation service only to its passengers to and from Syria, “when flights resume in the future.”

The ministry stated in a clarification statement, that its buses “will depart directly from the city of Damascus towards Queen Alia International Airport as of Sunday.” The statement of the Ministry of Transport did not specify a date for the resumption of flights between Amman and Damascus.

Last month, Jordan reopened the Jaber-Naseeb border crossing with Syria, to activate the trade and tourism movement between the two countries, against the background of several meetings between Jordan and the Assad regime.
