Lavrov discusses with the Egyptian Foreign Minister the Syrian and Libyan files

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Russia and Egypt, Sergey Lavrov and Sameh Shoukry, discussed today, Monday, a number of files, the most important of which are the Syrian and Libyan files.

During a joint press conference with Sameh Shoukry, the Russian Foreign Minister affirmed, “Moscow’s position rejects attempts to politicize the file of humanitarian aid delivery to Syria.”

He pointed out that they discussed the situation in Syria and how to promote an exit from the Syrian crisis, and work to reach a political settlement on the basis of Security Council Resolution 2254.

Lavrov added, “Russia supports the holding of elections and the withdrawal of foreign forces in Libya, and it must be done gradually and in stages, and we stress the importance of unifying the military institution in Libya.”

In the same context, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said during a press conference with Lavrov that “Egypt is keen for Syria to come out of its crisis and has suffered greatly for what the Syrian people have been subjected to over the past 10 years.”

Shoukry explained: “I thank Russia for the support that Egypt received from its side to address this issue in the Security Council, and we look forward to cooperating with Moscow in this issue, and to reach a binding legal solution that guarantees the rights of all parties away from any unilateral policies that do not comply with the policies of international law.”
