Qatar and Turkey agree to reject normalization with the Assad regime

Qatari Foreign Minister, Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman, met today, Monday, with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, during a joint press conference in the Qatari capital, Doha, to discuss several files, especially the Syrian file, and the normalization of relations with the Assad regime.

The foreign ministers of the two countries (Qatar and Turkey) expressed their opinion on normalization with the Assad regime, stressing the impossibility of this, or its return to the Arab League.

For his part, Qatari Foreign Minister Muhammad bin Abdul Rahman commented, “The reasons and concerns that prompted the suspension of Syria’s (Assad regime) membership in the Arab League still exist,” noting the impossibility of normalization with the Assad regime.

He stressed, “It is not possible to normalize relations without finding a political solution and returning refugees and displaced persons to their areas

He added“I don’t think we are in a position to offer the Assad a free pass to come to the Arab League,.”

In turn, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu stated: ” The absence of a political solution will “embolden this regime to continue its aggression on Idlib”.”

Davutoglu added, “There can be only one solution in Syria, which is the political solution.”

Tomorrow, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, a joint summit will be held between Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, to discuss bilateral issues between the two countries, including Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
