The European Union sets the date for the Fifth Brussels Conference about Syria next March

The European Union announced on Monday that it will organize the Fifth Brussels Conference on Supporting the Future of Syria and the Region from 29 to 30 March next.

The European Union Commission said in a statement that the fifth meeting of the Brussels conference will be held, by default, within the framework of measures to combat the Corona virus.

The statement stated that March 15 “marks the tenth anniversary of the Syrian uprising and the conflict is still going on,” as “the situation in Syria and the region remains extremely critical.”

The repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic and the deterioration of the economies of the region’s countries over the past year have contributed to “exacerbating the dire humanitarian situation inside Syria and the conditions of the Syrian refugees and their host communities in neighboring countries.

The Commission indicated that “on March 29th, the dialogue day will allow for the continuation of dialogue between civil society and the countries hosting refugees, the European Union and the United Nations,” and “other side events related to Syria will be held in the week preceding the conference, while the Ministerial Conference will be held on March 30th.

The European Union renewed, “Continue to mobilize all the tools available to it to support the Syrian people, to finally reach a negotiated political solution and to help create conditions for a brighter future for all Syrians.”

It is noteworthy that the first conference was held in April 2017, then the following conferences followed, to collect financial aid to support Syrians in various countries of the world.
