The Iraqi Foreign Ministry: The continuation of the conflict in Syria negatively affects the security of neighboring countries

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Al-Hussein stressed, on Monday, the need to end the conflict in Syria and resolve the Syrian refugee file. Al-Hussein said: “The interest of his country and the neighboring countries requires ending the Syrian crisis and resolving the refugee file.”

In a statement issued by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry, following the meeting of the Iraqi Foreign Minister with the US envoy to Syria, Joel Rubarn, the two sides discussed ways to reach a political solution to end the Syrian crisis.

The Iraqi Foreign Minister pointed out that the ongoing battles in Syria, between all parties, had a negative impact on the security situation of neighboring countries. It is worth noting that 250 thousand Syrians have sought refuge in Iraq since the beginning of the Syrian revolution in 2011, where most of them reside in refugee camps in the Kurdistan region in northern Iraq.

The Manama conference will hold a session entitled “Settlement of conflicts in the Middle East”, which examines the role of internal conflicts and regional rivalries, including : The two-decade-old war in Afghanistan, Iraq’s pursuit of stability and reconstruction, conflicts in Yemen, Syria and Libya, and the huge human, infrastructure, security and political costs it has left on the Middle East.
