The National Coalition condemns “UNESCO” for accepting the representation of an institution affiliated with the Assad regime

The National Coalition of Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces affirmed, in a statement yesterday, that the acceptance of any party affiliated with the Assad regime into the “UNESCO Monitoring Authority of the United Nations” “is an authorized and condemned matter, and represents an insult to millions of innocent victims of the Syrian people.”

The statement added that Asma al-Assad supervises an institution whose representation has been accepted by the “UNESCO affiliate,” which is considered an offense to the values of the international organization.

He explained that Asma al-Assad supported her husband Bashar al-Assad in his war on the Syrian people and was part of that war, which caused the suffering of the Syrian people.

The statement indicated: “Asma al-Assad is covered by economic sanctions because it supports the Assad regime’s war machine, and it is involved in operations that feed it financially, and is also involved in human rights violations.”

He pointed out that the “UNESCO” message completely contradicts the principles of the Assad regime, as it destroyed thousands of schools, killed and displaced millions of children and teachers, pursued them with barrels and bombs, arrested and killed under torture, and destroyed antiquities and the cultural and human heritage in Syria.

The statement demanded that the seat of arbitration be withheld, the regime delegitimized in the international organization and the freezing of Syria’s seat in the United Nations until it is handed over to the true representatives of the Syrian people.

The National Coalition had stated that the Syrian people are looking for an integrated international strategy that includes stopping the crimes of the Assad regime and its allies, an end to the destructive Iranian and Russian role in Syria and the region, and work to put an end to the suffering of the Syrian people.
