The Syrian Coalition describes Bashar al-Assad as ”insolent” after issuing a law ”criminalizing torture”

The head of the Syrian National Commission for the affairs of missing and detainees in the Syrian National Coalition, Yaser Al-Farhan, described Bashar al-Assad as “insolent.” after he had issued a law ”criminalizing torture”. He clarified that “arrest, execution and torture are a systematic behavior of the Assad regime to rule Syria.”

Al-Farhan stressed that the only solution to end the torture in Assad regime’ prisons is to implement the International resolutions, at the top the Geneva Communique and UN resolutions 2118 and 2254, and to achieve a complete political transition.

Al-Farhan called for holding Bashar al-Assad accountable for his violating of the international conventions and human rights laws, and bringing it to the International Criminal Court. He also called for opening all prisons to international bodies and organizations.

He clarified that ”Bashar Al-Assad seek to deceive the international community through these propaganda, as he has been committing all the crimes and practices since March 2011.”

It is noteworthy that the “Constitutional and Legislative Affairs Committee” in the People’s Assembly of the Assad regime discussed last Sunday a legislative proposal related to “criminalizing torture,” noting that it had prepared a report after discussing the articles of the proposal and referred it to the parliament to be discussed during the upcoming sessions.
