Turkish Security Council: We will continue our military operations against terrorism in Syria and Iraq

The Turkish Security Council confirmed that Turkey is determined to continue its military operations inside the Syrian and Iraqi territories, despite the opposition of the authorities of the two countries.

The Turkish Security Council said in a statement issued after a meeting led by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, that “the cross-border military operations carried out by the Turkish forces to eliminate terrorism and its sources, took place with the aim of establishing security and peace in the territories of neighboring countries and Turkey itself.”

The Council stressed that “Turkey respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the dialogue countries, but it will maintain its position on the issue of combating terrorism inside and outside Turkey’s borders.”

The Council continued, “Our military operations to eliminate terrorist organizations along our southern borders and ensure border security will continue in the coming period.”
The statement clarified that the talk is about all operations, including “behind the southern border”, where they will continue “totally and extensively.”

Despite widespread condemnations and protests by Damascus, Baghdad and a number of Arab and Western capitals, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly pledged that his country will do everything in its power to prevent the establishment of a “terror corridor” on its southern border, noting that Ankara “will not ask for
Permission” by anyone to fight terrorism inside or outside Turkey.
