UN report: Syria leads the world in number of refugees

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees issued a report saying that “more than 82.4 million people around the world have fled their homes, of whom 26.4 million are refugees, about half of whom are under the age of 18.

According to the report, Syria has been ranked first in the number of refugees since 2014, noting that about 80% of Syrian refugees live in countries neighboring Syria. 26.4 million registered as refugees.

The report indicated that Afghanistan comes in second with 2.6 million refugees, followed by South Sudan with 2.2 million refugees, which is considered the largest refugee crisis in Africa, where Uganda, Sudan, Ethiopia and Kenya host 95% of South Sudanese refugees.

In fourth place is Myanmar with 1.1 million Rohingya refugees, which is the largest group of refugees in the country, and the report also monitored nearly 5.6 million Venezuelans outside their country, but did not put it in the classification of countries, because many of them did not register themselves as refugees or asylum seekers. .
