UNRWA: The situation of Palestinian refugees in Syria is tragic

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philip Lazzarini said that more than 90 percent of Palestinians in Syria live below the poverty line, and many live on one meal a day.

Lazzarini added, according to what the “Working Group for Palestinians of Syria” reported on the suffering of Palestinians of Syria in Jordan, that they “face enormous economic difficulties and have no choice but UNRWA,” noting that vaccination coverage from the Corona pandemic is still low in the region, and the host countries need The Palestinians urgently need more vaccinations to prevent further waves of infection.

“The situation of the Palestinian refugees in Syria is tragic because of the war in Syria for ten years, and the shattered economy,” Lazzarini said during the agency’s advisory committee conference.

He stated that “there is a deficit in the agency’s budget, which has reached 150 million dollars in the middle of 2021,” calling for exploring all possible ways and means to provide additional support to the agency, or to speed up making donations by mid-August.

He appealed to those present at the Advisory Committee meeting to explore all possible ways and means to provide additional support to the Agency, expedite the provision of planned donations or redirect donations from other portals to the program budget by mid-August.
