“World Vision International” organization describes the Security Council resolution regarding the Bab al-Hawa crossing as disappointing

The humanitarian “World Vision International” organization issued a statement in which it said the resolution to extend aid delivery through Bab al-Hawa border crossing, which was adopted by the Security Council with a majority of 12 countries, was “disappointing”.

The statement criticized the extension for 6 months only as it does not provide sufficient time for humanitarian response planning and create unnecessary logistical constraints for aid deliveries that sustain life in Syria.

Syria response director for World Vision International, Johan Mooij, expressed his concern due to the failure to put the politics aside and allow for 12-month reauthorization.

Mooij criticized the short period of extending aid, saying, “The short period makes it difficult for humanitarian agencies to plan and implement the response, and the aid file is not guaranteed in the harsh winter months, which leaves 1.7 million displaced people in northwest Syria at risk at this critical time.

The UN Security Council agreed on Tuesday to extend the UN aid delivery mechanism to Syria through Turkey for an additional 6 months, after the consensus of member states, with the United States, Britain and France abstained.
