German organization: It is not appropriate to discuss plans of refugees deportation to Syria

The management of the German “Pro Azul” organization, which specializes in refugee matters, criticized the German Interior Ministry’s plans to extend the general ban imposed by Germany to deport refugees to the Assad regime’s control areas.

In statements to the German news agency (DPA), the executive director of the organization, Gunter Burckhardt, confirmed that torture and random arrests practiced by the arms of the Assad regime in Syria can extend to any Syrian citizen.

Burckhardt added during his statements: “We cannot bet on the actions of the Assad regime nor its prediction, and it is inappropriate for the interior ministers at the federal and state levels to discuss the issue of ending the general ban imposed on deportation to Syria.”

The German Foreign Ministry intends to submit a new report on the security situation in Syria, at the time of the interior ministers’ consultations, as the deportations are likely to be difficult because Germany does not currently maintain diplomatic relations with the Assad regime.

The German Interior Minister proposes not to extend the general ban imposed by his country on deportation to Syria, beyond December 31. A general ban on deportation to Syria was first imposed in 2012, and has been extended several times since then.

Last May, the German Foreign Ministry issued a report on the security situation in Syria, in which it clarified the reality of the danger that the Syrian citizens are exposed to in the supposedly safer areas within the Syrian territories.
