President of the Syrian American Council: There is a possibility of the success of the new US sanctions on the Assad regime

The President of the Syrian American Council, Zaki Lababidi, stated about the possibility of the success of the bill presented by the US House of Representatives, which aims to topple the head of the Assad regime.

The President of the Syrian American Council, Zaki Lababidi, told Fresh Online: “The bill was submitted by a member of the House of Representatives, and in order for it to be adopted as a law, it must pass the House of Representatives and the Senate and be signed by the president.”

Lababidi added, “The factors that pushed Representative Joe Wilson to present the bill are the handcuffs of America’s new president regarding Syria policy.”

He continued, saying: “There is a great opportunity with the new US administration during the year 2021 to implement Law 2254, so that all the official and unofficial spectrums of the Syrian revolution agree on a Syrian plan and a vision for a solution in Syria and to push in all the capitals of the world that have a relationship in the Syrian solution, such as Russia, America, Turkey and the capitals. Arabic”.

Among the most important provisions of the bill are the overthrow of the Assad regime, the punishment of prison directors in Syria, and no US government can recognize the Assad regime again, imposing sanctions on countries and officials trying to normalize relations with Syria, imposing sanctions on banks and people who help the Assad regime financially, and calling for the implementation of the Caesar Act.

More firmly, studying the possibility of establishing a safe zone and a no-fly zone, setting up a plan to establish an economic zone in the liberated areas.

Lababidi explained: “The air embargo decision was very easy to implement in 2013, as it is now difficult to implement such a law due to the presence of Russian forces, but if it is to be applied, it must be passed by the House of Representatives and the Senate.”

He concluded by stressing that the solution in Syria should be through the major countries and influencing the Syrian issue by establishing a transitional government and not through the Constitutional Committee and negotiations with the Assad regime, which are useless.

It is noteworthy that the bill presented by 150 Republican lawmakers in the US House of Representatives, Thursday, January 10, aims to tighten the screws on the Assad regime further
