Iran: We welcome Washington’s return to the nuclear agreement if it wants

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said today, Wednesday: “His country welcomes Washington’s return to the nuclear agreement if it wants,” he said.

Rouhani added, “Washington must declare its position if it is unwilling to return.” This comes amid US consultations with international parties to return to the nuclear agreement.

“If we see practical moves from Washington and we witness any step towards comprehensive commitment to pledges, we will take a similar step,” Rouhani stressed.

He noted, “Iran will not change an article of the nuclear agreement and that the agreement will not include other parties, and this is our final position and will not change.”

He explained, “America has violated the Security Council resolution and has no right to set conditions, and that it must abide by the agreement and lift the sanctions so that Tehran can fulfill its obligations,” as he claimed.

A spokesman for the US State Department said that close consultations with Britain, Germany, France and the High Representative for European foreign policy are necessary in order to persuade Iran to resume its compliance with the nuclear agreement, and to address a number of issues of concern to Tehran.
