Belarus intends to send 600 personnel to Syria

The American War Institute published a report on Friday, citing the so-called “Belarusian Veterans Association” that it would publish 600 members it described as “peacekeepers in Syria” during the next month.

The institute stated that the forces that will be deployed in Syria are composed of two battalions that include 600 members, and it is likely that Russia has instigated this matter to achieve a number of goals, and it also indicated that Moscow has sought for several years to benefit from the partner forces in Syria.

For his part, a spokesman for the Belarusian Ministry of Defense said during a statement early this month that “Belarus is constantly seeking new directions for peacekeeping activities.”

He pointed out that the Belarusian deployment in Syria will help the Russian units to secure land lines of communication in central Syria, by expanding the spread of the Russian military police and the “Wagner” militia.

It is worth noting that Russia continues to support the Assad regime, the militias loyal to it, under the pretext of fighting ISIS and bringing in large military reinforcements and experts to the lines of contact with the revolutionary factions.
