The United States announces $ 596 million to aid the Syrians

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced today, Tuesday, that Washington will provide $ 596 million to support life-saving aid to the needy Syrians throughout the region, as Washington continues to support the efforts of the United Nations to “end this crisis.”

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that “the US ambassador to the United Nations announced at the Brussels Fifth Conference that more than $ 596 million in humanitarian aid was provided in response to the Syrian crisis,” bringing the total of US aid provided to the Syrians to about $ 13 billion during 10 years of the crisis in Syria, according to Statement.

The US State Department statement said that Washington donated nearly $ 141 million to support the response to the “Covid-19” epidemic in Syria and the region.

Blinken said that US aid “will benefit many of the 13.4 million Syrians who need humanitarian aid in Syria,” as well as 5.6 million Syrian refugees in Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt.

“We provide support to alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable people in the world, because this is consistent with our values ​​as a nation and with our national interests,” the minister added, noting that the US ambassador to the United Nations, Linda Thomas Greenfield, also stressed the responsibility of the international community to provide humanitarian access without Obstacles to all Syrians in need, through all available means.

Greenfield, the US ambassador to the United Nations, confirmed that the Syrian people need a real political solution in Syria, in line with Security Council Resolution 2254, and that the United States will not provide reconstruction aid in the absence of progress on the political track.

The work of the Brussels Fifth Conference on the future of Syria and the region was launched on Monday, which will last for two days, under the joint presidency of the European Union and the United Nations.
