Officially.. Idlib University joins the Federation of Mediterranean Basin Universities

Yesterday, Idlib University officially joined the Union of Universities of the Mediterranean Basin “UNIMED”.

The university president, Dr. Ahmed Abu Hajar, said on the university’s Facebook page: “We congratulate our dear students and families in the liberated areas for their university to join the Federation of Mediterranean Universities.”

Abu Hajar added that this great achievement of the Syrian revolution and the liberated areas came after hard work and effort by the cadres and students of Idlib University.

The Federation of the Universities of the Mediterranean Basin is an academic association for 84 universities from the Mediterranean countries. The Federation is located in the Italian capital, Rome.

The union includes universities from 21 countries, the most of which is Italy, which participates with 22 universities, and many countries, including Jordan, Tunisia, Morocco, Lebanon, Palestine and Turkey, and includes three universities affiliated with the Assad regime, including “Al-Baath”, “Tishreen” and the University of Aleppo, and the Union of Mediterranean Basin Universities was established in 1991.

The University of Idlib was established in late 2015 and is affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and Practical Research in the Syrian “Salvation” government, which controls Idlib Governorate. The university includes 14 colleges and 5 institutes.

And the University of Idlib opened late last year a university hospital affiliated to it, which is one of the most prominent scientific and medical edifices in Idlib Governorate, northwest Syria.
