Amnesty International calls on the Assad regime to allow aid to enter Daraa al-Balad

Amnesty International has urged the Assad regime to immediately allow humanitarian access to besieged neighborhoods in Deraa city.

“The Syrian government must immediately lift the siege to facilitate unrestricted access for humanitarian organizations and allow the medical evacuation of the sick and wounded,” said Diana Samaan, researcher on Syria at Amnesty International.

Semaan called on all parties to “ensure safe passage for civilians wishing to leave the area.”
The human rights organization said: “The Assad regime now rarely approves medical evacuations, while many sick and wounded people fear being detained or facing reprisals if they enter the territory it controls.”

The axes of the city of Daraa al-Balad witnessed violent clashes last night between fighters from the region and the Assad forces, where the latter responded by violently shelling civilian homes with artillery, mortars and tanks, which led to a very large destruction of civilian homes.

Mystery still dominates the scene in Daraa al-Balad, where the Assad regime has not lifted the siege on the besieged neighborhoods, nor has it withdrawn the large military reinforcements it had brought in, but rather escalated its bombardment yesterday evening after hours of relative calm, awaiting what the coming hours will offer.
