Humanitarian organizations launch “Nafs” campaign to help Corona sufferers in northern Syria

Humanitarian organizations in northwest Syria, in cooperation with the Idlib Health Directorate, launched a campaign to secure the necessary medical supplies to save the lives of those infected with the Corona virus (Covid-19), at a time when the health sector in the region is under pressure from the widespread spread of the virus and the high rate of infections.

Humanitarian organizations launched the campaign under the name “Nafas,” and said in a statement, published by the Syrian Civil Defense: “A real catastrophe is experienced in northwestern Syria, with the significant increase in the number of infections with the Corona virus and the spread of new mutations that are more dangerous than the original virus, especially the delta mutant, which is characterized by its rapid spread.
It affects all age groups.

The organizations (Violet Organization, Mulham Volunteer Team, and Freedom Team) confirmed that “the medical sector has reached a complete deficit after occupying all the intensive care beds in Covid 19 hospitals, and the beds of isolation centers, with a severe shortage of oxygen, one of the most important life-saving medical supplies for those infected with the Corona virus.”

She added: “During the last week of September, more than 30 people infected with the Corona virus lost their lives, due to the lack of a vacant family, or oxygen, in the hospitals in northwestern Syria, which means that the medical situation is heading towards collapse with the continued rise in numbers infections without an indication of the ability to absorb or reduce them within the capabilities currently available.”

The campaign statement pointed to “the significant shortage in the number of intensive care beds, which numbered 173, while the number of competitors is 157, which does not cover the huge number of daily injuries whose average exceeds 1200 cases,” in addition to the “severe shortage of oxygen, which exceeds 50 % of needs.

The number of coronavirus infections in northwestern Syria has reached 72,552, of whom 1,198 have died, according to the Early Warning Network.
