Hadi Al-Bahra: Holding the sixth round of the committee’s meetings depends on the parties’ commitment to Geir Pedersen’s methodology

Hadi al-Bahra, co-chair of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, said in press statements that holding the sixth session of the committee’s meetings depends on the parties’ commitment to the methodology proposed by the United Nations special envoy to Syria Geir Pedersen.

This comes after the Russian President’s envoy to Syria, Alexander Lavrentiev, announced that the date of the next periodic meeting of the “Committee” may be held in the summer of 2021, noting that “the agenda for the next round has been set since the previous session of the meetings, and it is the basic principles in the constitution, which represent The first chapter of the draft constitution, upon which the contents of the subsequent chapters are built and adhered to.

For his part, a member of the Negotiations Committee, Ibrahim al-Jabawi, said that there are no signs or approval to resume the work of the committee, speaking of the incorrectness of the Russian announcement about reaching an agreement regarding the resumption of the committee’s meetings this summer, according to what was reported by the “Al-Araby Al-Jadeed” website.

Al-Jabawi confirmed that the United Nations Special Envoy to Syria, other than Pedersen, did not communicate with the opposition and did not inform it of anything new, and pointed out that Moscow had repeatedly made statements during the past period about the return of the committee’s work.

Alexander Lavrentiev, the Russian President’s envoy to Syria, had previously revealed the date of the regular meeting, and considered that there are still no specific proposals on how to actually alleviate the suffering of the Syrian people on the part of the “collective West.”
