Iranian official: The economic benefit in Syria goes to Russia
Ali Asghar Zbardast, Vice President of the Iranian-Syrian Joint Chamber of Commerce, described in a statement to the “Jade Iran” website, his country’s commercial and economic relations with the Assad regime are very slow.
The Iranian official indicated that the economic benefit in Syria goes to Russia, and he expected his country in Syria to face the same problem that they faced with Iraq with regard to trade exchange, noting that most of Iraq’s trade relations are now with Turkey.
“Zobardust” stated that the same thing will happen in Syria, as the Syrian economic benefit goes to Russia, and it has implemented several “reconstruction” projects.
He pointed out that Iran’s trade and economic relations with the Assad regime are very slow, and that despite promises of cooperation by the Assad regime, there is nothing practical.
He also explained that Syrian businessmen are two groups: Those who do not support Bashar al-Assad and trade mainly with Jordan and other Arab countries, and those who support his regime and are more likely to do business with Iran. But Russia is getting the lion’s share of rebuilding projects.
The Iranian parliamentarian, Falahat Pisheh, criticized the inequality in economic dealings between his country and Russia, while Qanoon newspaper reported that Bashar wanted to trim Iran’s nails in Syria.
While he was Chairman of the Parliamentary National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, during a visit to Damascus, in January 2019, “Bishah” said that “Iran and Russia are allies in protecting the Assad regime, and they will remain allies, so the Assad regime must provide equal economic opportunities for the two countries in order to Nobody feels discriminated against.”
Qanoon newspaper had launched an attack on Bashar al-Assad because of what it called Iran’s right to seize, even by force, its share in Syria, and said: “The right is taken, despite the attempt to hide the facts about our loss of our share in Syria by some in Iran; Our people know and are aware of what is happening to us in Syria.”
