Macron: We will continue to fight against Daesh (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria

French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Saturday, that his country will continue to fight against Daesh (ISIS) in Iraq and Syria, and will continue to battle terrorism.

Macron said during a press conference held yesterday, at the conclusion of his visit to Iraq that France will keep troops in Iraq as part of anti-terrorism operations for as long as the Iraqi government needs, regardless of whether or not the United States decides to withdraw.

Macron said while he was attending Baghdad summit, “We all know that we must not lower our guard, because Daesh (ISIS) remains a threat, and I know that the fight against these terrorist groups is a priority of your government,”.

The French President’s two-day tour in Iraq included the capital, Baghdad, the city of Mosul, and the capital of the Kurdistan region of Iraq, Erbil.

During the visit, Macron met with a number of Iraqi politicians, and inspected the French special forces participating in the fight against ISIS.
