The Syrian American Medical Association (SAMS) condemns the targeting of Al-Atarib Surgical Hospital, west of Aleppo

In a statement, the Syrian American Medical Association (SAMS) condemned the bombing by the Assad regime of the Atarib Surgical Hospital, which it supports, west of Aleppo.

“SAMS” said that the Atarib Surgical Hospital had its coordinates shared with the United Nations through the coordinate exchange mechanism to neutralize the medical facilities from the conflict, and despite that, it was subjected to this attack that put it out of service.

It added that the shelling caused the complete destruction of the orthopedic clinic, and damage to the windows and the front gate of the hospital, while one of the shells hit an electrical generator on the hospital’s roof, which led to its complete out of service.

“SAMS” explained that the Atareb Surgical Hospital is one of the largest hospitals in northwestern Syria, and provides free services to the people in the region, providing 3650 medical services to patients per month, and 177 services per month in orthopedics and urology. The hospital also provides emergency and obstetric services.

Following the bombing, SAMS announced that the hospital was completely out of service and all staff, patients and reviewers were completely evacuated.

“SAMS” confirmed that it has documented 157 direct and indirect attacks with heavy weapons on its facilities in Syria since 2017, these attacks have caused temporary and permanent closure of more than 14 facilities, killing 32 medical personnel and wounding 52.

The Assad regime’s artillery shelling of the Atareb Surgical Hospital, west of Aleppo, resulted in the death of eight civilians, and wounding 17 others, among civilians and hospital workers, amid great damage to the hospital, which was out of service.
