US-Russian agreement to coordinate military movements in Syria

The Russian Ministry of Defense said today, Thursday, that Washington and Moscow stressed the importance of the agreement militarily in Syria, so that no mistakes occurred between the two sides.

This came during a phone call, which took place between the Russian Chief of Staff Valery Gerasimov, and the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley.

The Russian defense affirmed, “that open military communication channels between the defense ministries of the two countries must be preserved, to avoid the occurrence of frictions or unintended mistakes during the two sides’ movements on Syrian territory.”

According to “Sharq Al-Awsat newspaper” the two sides discussed issues of mutual interest related to security and maintaining stability in various regions of the world, especially in crisis areas, especially Syria.

During the previous years, the American and Russian sides agreed more than once to activate military coordination in Syria, and the forces of the two countries are overlapping on the ground in eastern Syria.

Dmitry Peskov, the Russian presidential spokesman, had previously announced that a number of important agreements had been reached on Syria at the meeting of the Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev with his American counterparts.
