Two organizations are calling on France and the European Commission to open humanitarian corridors in Syria

Doctors of the World and the Federation of Relief and Medical Care Organizations have sent a letter to the French President, Emmanuel Macron, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, asking them to continue humanitarian work in Syria, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the start of the Syrian revolution.

The two organizations demanded “the opening of humanitarian corridors in Syria to verify the immediate transfer of humanitarian aid” and the provision of medical support on the ground, in light of Russian efforts to restrict the entry of aid and undermine it.

The text of the message read: “We are going to the French state and the international authorities to play their role in establishing peace and assisting the medical teams in Syria, which for 10 years have been treating the sick and wounded under the bombs.”

“After a war that lasted 10 years, even if there was relative stability in terms of violence, the educational and health systems collapsed completely,” said one of the organization’s officials, Raphael Beatty.

Beatty warned of famine due to the economic crisis, which “is added to this tragedy,” and that last month carried out his 30th mission in Syria.

According to the French Press Agency, Betty signed the letter with the president of Médecins du Monde, Philippe de Bouton, and the head of the Union of Relief and Medical Care Organizations, Ziad Al-Issa.
