Washington calls for new sanctions against the Assad regime

Washington has called for new international sanctions to be imposed on the Assad regime, due to its continuous violations of the agreement to ban the use of chemical weapons on residential areas in most Syrian cities.

This came after the report of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) after it conducted investigations through the international team, which included interviews with people who were present in the relevant places at the time of the incident, analysis of samples and remnants collected from the sites of the chemical attack, in addition to reviewing the symptoms reported by the victims and the medical staff,
As well as examining images, including satellite images.

“In light of the recent findings of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the Security Council must hold the Assad regime responsible for its repeated violations of the Chemical Weapons Convention,” the US State Department said in a tweet on its Twitter account.

The ministry added, “It is time to show the Assad regime that the use of chemical weapons is unacceptable and has serious consequences.”

On Monday, a report issued by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) concluded that the Assad regime forces are responsible for using chemical weapons in an airstrike that hit Saraqib on the evening of February 4, 2018.
