UAE warns Bashar al-Assad against intervening in the Hamas-Israel war

The American news website “Axios” said in a report on Tuesday, October 10, that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) warned Assad regime not to intervene in the war between Hamas and Israel.

The website quoted diplomatic sources as saying that the UAE warned Assad regime against “interference” in Hamas-Israel war or allowing to carry out military operations against Israel from the Syrian territories.

The website added that several Arab and regional states, including the US are very concerned about the possibility of spilling over the war into Lebanon or Syria and turning into a regional conflict.

The report made it clear that Emirati officials issued warning messages to high-level officials in Assad regime’s government. They also briefed Biden administration about these messages.

France, Germany, Italy, Britain and the United States emphasized in a joint statement last Monday that “This is not a moment for any party hostile to Israel to exploit these attacks to seek advantage.”

The UAE is considered the first Arab state to normalize its diplomatic relations with the Assad regime, and reopened its embassy in Damascus in 2018 for the first time in seven years following the outbreak of the Syrian revolution.

The UAE has also been hosting a number of the Assad family and their relatives for several years, including Bashar al-Assad’s sister, Rami Makhlouf’s children, in addition to a number of ministers’ and advisors’ children.
