The United States: We still maintain our presence in Syria to pursue ISIS

“We still maintain our presence in Syria to continue to pursue ISIS, and this matter is part of our efforts within the framework of the coalition,” said US Defense Department spokesman John Kirby.

This came during a press conference held, in response to a question about the goals of keeping the American forces in Syria.

Kirby added, “ISIS” elements are still present there and continue to pose a threat to the region, noting that “most of the organization’s forces have been defeated, but large lands in Syria remain out of control.”

Most of the lands of the governorates of Hasaka, Deir Ezzor and Raqqa, which are rich in energy resources, in north and northeast Syria, are under the control of the Syrian Democratic Forces, supported by the international coalition against the “Islamic State” organization led by the United States.
