Washington considers the Geneva talks the best way to resolve in Syria

The US ambassador to Kazakhstan, William Mozer, said that his country is not planning to return as an observer to the “Astana talks”, and that the Geneva talks under the auspices of the United Nations are the best way to resolve in Syria.

“We believe that the UN-sponsored Geneva formula is the most appropriate process for resolving this conflict,” Moser emphasized with a briefing via video technology. So, we don’t want to be monitors in another process anymore.

Washington did not participate in the Astana process with Iran, Russia and Turkey on the 15th of last February, and an American official, who preferred not to be named, spoke to the American “Al-Hurra” channel, that “the only path to end the conflict in Syria passes through the political process facilitated by the United Nations in Geneva under Resolution 2254.

The statement of the closing meeting did not carry anything new as it spoke about the necessity of eliminating “terrorism” and adhering to the unity of the Syrian territories, which was stated in the first statement in 2017.

The three countries (Russia, Turkey and Iran) are the guarantors of the “Astana” agreement on Syria, which took place between representatives of the Assad regime and a delegation of the Syrian opposition, in the Kazakh capital, “Astana” (Nur Sultan), and the first rounds of talks began on January 23 and 24, 2017. .
