Joe Biden extends the decree of the state of emergency relating to Syria for another year
Yesterday, Thursday, US President Joe Biden extended the decree of the “state of national emergency” related to Syria for another year, describing the practices of the Assad regime as “constituting a threat” to the national security of the United States.
This came in a statement issued by the White House, in which the US President said that “the brutality of the regime and its suppression of the Syrian people, which called for freedom, not only endangering the Syrian people, but also constituting a state of instability throughout the region.”
The White House statement stressed that the policies and actions of the Assad regime, “including with regard to chemical weapons and support for terrorist organizations,” pose an “extraordinary threat to national security, foreign policy, and the economy of the United States.”
The statement added that the United States condemns “the brutal violence, violations and abuses of human rights practiced by the Assad regime and its Russian and Iranian allies.”
The White House called on the Assad regime and its allies to “stop its violent war against its people” and comply with the nationwide ceasefire, in addition to “enabling unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid to all Syrians in need, and negotiating a political settlement in Syria in line with the Security Council resolution.”
