US official: We are working with allies to find a Syrian government that represents its people and cares for them

Acting US Assistant Secretary of State Joey Hood said that it is important to provide assistance to the Syrian people, commenting on the unanimous approval of the Security Council on Resolution 2585 regarding the renewal of the mechanism for the entry of humanitarian aid into Syria, across the border.

The American official added to Al-Arabiya Al-Hadath TV channel: “We are not talking about regime change in Damascus.
And do not prevent them from helping, and do not drop barrel bombs on them, as the Assad regime did.”
“This is the kind of government that we are all looking for and that I think the Syrians are expecting,” Hood emphasized.
That is why we support the political process led by the United Nations.”

Hood added: Are the chances very good?
It doesn’t look like that now because Bashar al-Sad doesn’t take it seriously.
But that doesn’t mean we should give up.”
Hood stressed the need for the United States to try in every possible way, together with its allies, to push Syria in this direction, and that this is what the Syrian people deserve.

Yesterday, Friday, the UN Security Council unanimously approved Resolution 2585 on renewing the mechanism for the entry of humanitarian aid into Syria across the border, after vigorous international negotiations and discussions during the past months, as the resolution was adopted without a Russian veto.

Under the resolution, the UN Security Council extends the process of entering humanitarian aid into Syria through the “Bab al-Hawa” crossing for a period of 12 months, as the resolution stipulates the delivery of aid through the crossing for a period of 6 months, renewable for another six months.
